Found Don's story very interesting, since a few years back the powers to be at Oswego Speedway under the ownership of Steve Gioia and Pat Furlong band Independent Front End Suspension Supermodifieds. The end result of that band was the lowest car counts the supermodified class had ever seen at Oswego, teams were driven away, fans were driven away and the death of Oswego Speedway could be felt hanging in the air. Luckily new owners were found and new life being breathed into the track has both drivers and fans coming back to the track in large numbers.
Over the years I have always been amazed why racing organtizations were afraid of innovative ideas. Jimmy Shampine, Doug Duncan, Bill Hite and Freddy Graves were four of the top innovators when it came to supermodified racing. I have often wondered if rear engine supers weren't band at Oswego years ago how that could have changed the face of Indy car racing today.
