Timmy Jedrzejek and the Danny Soule #32 team captured the 34th running of the Sandusky Hy- Miler Nationals on Saturday night, a first time achievement for both Timmy and Danny's team.

Normally I don't post on races I haven't attended but knowing how much some IOW members like Mudpacker and Racin Babe enjoy supermodified racing thought this was worth sharing.

Saturday night the group of racing friends I was in the Owego Harbor with waiting to watch the Gucci Fireworks with were also anxiously trying to get race reports from Sandusky. The reports were slow in coming it took over 2 and a 1/2 hours to run the 100 lap feature which ended up being 200 plus laps, five red flags and two refueling stops before the checkers flew. Reports were Trent Stephens crash was real scary looking, Trent has been on another website reporting he is all right, he has some bruised ribs. Trent was also praising his new Bell helmet for preventing him from having a serious headache.

Gene Lee Gibson had crashed his brand new super earlier in the day and while first reports were the car was destroyed, I have learned from a friend that has been in contact with the Gibson family that it was mainly front end and sheetmetal damage. Gene Lee luckily was uninjured.

Johnny Benson Jr. had the motor in his Lichty #74 let go early in the Hy-Miler. Mike Lichty won Friday nights action in the Reed Salvage #8 renumbered 84 to keep up Mike's ISMA points. This caused allot of confusion for those posting on line many thought Mike was in the Lichty #84.

Friday night top ten: 84 Mike Lichty, 28 Bobby Dawson, 29 Russ Wood, 19 Trent Stephens, 1 Kyle Edwards, 61 Mike Ordway Sr., 32 Timmy Jedrzejek, 77 Tim Ice, 74 Johnny Benson Jr., 17 Ben Seitz. Noteable mention Oswego Champ Otto Sitterly climbed abroad the Vic Miller super and finished 14th, Paul White finished 17th in the Sweet 16 and Mike Ordway Jr. finished 23rd.

Saturday night top ten: 32 Timmy Jedrzejek, 17 Ben Seitz, 29 Russ Wood, 49 Mike Ordway Jr., Dave Schullick Jr., 16 Paul White, 35 Rob Sumers, 9 Eddie Witkum Jr., 84 Mike Lichty.

Personally I had never had a chance to meet Timmy J. until this years ISMA race at Stafford and while I had always been impressed by his racing capabilities it was the first I got to fine out what a great young man he is and asset to th Soule race team. The Soule race team had a monumental task ahead of them repairing the race car after Waterford before the Stafford race. I saw Timmy personally thank each and every crew member for their efforts getting the car back to the track. My first impression of Timmy was he is a class act racer. The Soule team has won the first of the "Triple Crown" supermodified races by winning the Hy-Miler, job well done guys. Hope they also achieve strong finishes in the other two legs of the "Triple Crown". The Oswego & Star Classic's.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Soule race team, the #32 had been parked for most of the 2009 & 2010 race seasons when long time crew member Billy Day suffered a bleeding stroke on the brain. Most of Danny and the crews energy was focused on Billy's recovery over the past two years. It warms my heart to see the Soule race team back at the track doing well and also having Billy making the biggest strides in his recovery this summer being back at the race track.

This team truely deserves to wear the title of "Hy-MIler Nationals Champions", Congrats!!!

Patti
