aaron fike was allowed to compete on a different night 4 years ago. the circumstances were a bit extenuating.
everyone was lined up to go out and hotlap and a car coming up the ramp had the throttle hang and slammed into the cars waiting to go out. fikes car was pushed into the car that i was working on (sending me over the hood) and i was lucky and saw it coming. the guy that crew chief'd (greg i think was the name) the WIS-CO car that fike was driving was not so lucky. He got pinned up against the steel fencing that seperates the turn 3 and 4 grandstands from the line up chute. I believe he broke his ankle. another wis-co crew member was thrown through the air and landed on a trash can next to us and was knocked out.
Fikes car had front end damage and that plus lack of crew members led to him being allowed to qualify friday (i think) night. luckily our car only had a bent front bumper and kenny lewis ran that night.
elsewhere on the board someone mentioned gary taylor, who was making his chilibowl debut aboard the other conklin car that week. I will never forget that episode. The wis-co guys were parked next to us and everyone ended up being ok and if i remember aaron put it in the show that year too, so i guess the story had an ok ending.
