Ummm......
Is this the same USAC that virtualy banned turbine powered race cars, yet allowed rear engine cars to take over Indy Car racing. After rear engined cars were all there was this same USAC them banned rear engine sprint cars from their series.
It's very possible that if they would have allowed rear engine sprint cars to flourish then Hewitt, Darland, Tony E., Kevin Thomas, etc would have gotten the rear engine oval track experience and things would have been very different today.
Today there is a need for a purpose built pavement and purpose built dirt sprint car. So the argument 35-40 years ago about not having to have two distinct race cars to run USAC sprint series doesn't hold much water.
Let the arrows fly as I know I've opened a can of worms here.
