My wife, Earlene, is having surgery this Thursday at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville to remove a GIST (gastrointestinal stroma tumor) from her outer stomach wall. This is a very rare condition and many doctors never seen a case in their entire career.
She had a needle aspiration biopsy, but it was inconclusive because of the coloration. The doctor was able to tell that her lymph nodes and liver are not involved, so that is a positive.
We have talked to several nurses, and none have ever heard of this condition. Earlene will be required to spend four days and four nights in the hospital.
When the mass was first discovered, she was advised that she could opt to have a CT scan every six months to monitor the situation, but after the biopsy which showed heterogeneous coloration, the doctor recommended removal, but he said it was not urgent. But, when you are the person whose body contains the tumor, you naturally want to have it removed ASAP so that you know what you are dealing with.
Please keep Earlene in your thoughts and prayers. She is looking forward to another season of rooting for Dave Darland, and hopes to see him drive to victory on April 16th,which is her birthday, at Lawrenceburg.
Thanks
