I have refrained from commenting on this thread but feel it necessary to speak up.
I've know Kevin for many years, back in the WKA karting era; my sons and he raced the same races. We never competed directly with Kevin, he ran the champ kart classes and my sons only ran the karts in those days. Kevin was a competitor and won some races, he made some bonzaii moves and lost some races too. He was always polite and liked to play around with the other kids when they weren't on the track. His mother is one of the nicest ladies you will meet. She was always in a good mood and would speak first when you met her. Sammy was always quiet, I assumed he was being arrogant, but only because of his reputation; he never gave me any reason to believe he wasn't just shy.
Kevins driving, in his final year of karting, had become pretty wild and aggressive. It looked to me like he had a tremendous amount of pressure on him in the kart, outside he was just another goofy teen hanging out with the boys.
I would imagine he is under even more pressure today in USAC and whatever other cars he drives. I was never a Sammy fan, but don't carry that attitude over to Kevin.

Well, I have 2 points about that.
1. If you are going to fight my one of my sons, you will have to come through me to get to them.
2. If one of my sons makes a bonehead move that causes you problems, you will be able to talk to him- only after I have my say with him. I try to hold my sons to a higher standard in racing and life, but sometimes they make mistakes too.
Maybe these young guns need some compassion and understanding from the veterans. I know they need to learn respect for their fellow drivers, but sometimes the veterans need to meet them further than halfway. If you have a wild driver, take a few minutes before practice and talk to them, they may just not know what they are doing wrong.
