In one of the points to Dalton a comment was made possibly as a slap in the face to the many drivers that wished they were given the chance.
If you ever watched Brad, I think I only saw him one time in a USAC/CRA race at Tulare when he ran his 360 against the 410's. It was awesome and he almost made the main event. The next time I saw him he returned and this time another young star, which I don't remember his name had hired the services of Jimmy Sills. But what amazed me that not only this young star was walking the track, but so was Brad Sweet. I know what they were saying JIMMY, the young star and Brad, because I had went to the Jimmy Sills School of Open Wheel racing and one of the first things Jimmy does is walk the track telling his young drivers what to look for when you drive.
Amazingly Cory Kruseman will do the same thing. When you go to these schools the instructors will try to give you hints from what they have learned in racing to help young stars on their way to a racing career, but what you may not know is I also feel these instructors are emabassadors to the students on their way to success. There is no doubt in my mind that Jimmy put out a good word to Catus Jack when Brad drove for him and they won that 10,000 dollars at Lakeside in
2008. These coaches and the racing community talk. If they like you they will put out a good word and try to give you a break. What you do with that break is your own business. I honestly feel Jimmy even tried to help me. I got a call from a TV show wanting to know if I wanted to be a contestant. It was the "World Worst Drivers". I turned it down, but any plublicity is good publicity and I can't help think that Jimmy was the one that got me that offer. He tried to help me also.
I also feel what you do athletically helps you in your racing career. Steve Kinser was a State Champion in Wrestling. Brad Sweet was a wrestler also.
Attitude. Don't get me wrong but most racers have an attitude. Jeff Gordon don't. I don't think Kasey Khane does and neither does Brad Sweet. So you either have it or you don't and when you are going to represent millions of dollars from corporate sponsors how you look, how you dress and smile makes a big difference. It may be the only difference that separates you from the pack. I honestly believe Brad has that all American look and attitude. You can't fake that. It's real and it shows and it will sell products.
In conclusion Brad has talent. I don't know how much, but I hope the most for him because of his attitude everytime he talks or you see him race. Being a good driver is only one small part and may not be the most important when you go looking for sponsors.
I think Don Kazarain will make a good promoter. Why how many promoters or employees will clean the toilets. Yeah, strap on some rubber boots and clean the John's. Don will do this. Any man that can clean a "john" deserves to be a business success.
I'm willing to bet most on this board and in life would not clean the toilets as a first requirement to get where you want. If you are not willing to get on your hands and knees and do the dirtiest part of any job you will probably not make it. And most importantly be grateful and happy for the oppportunity.
Sincerely,
Larry Otani and sorry if I cause trouble on this message board. It's not my intention.
