Quite a while ago, Open Wheel magazine did a test at Thompson with a supermodified that ran both with and without the wing. Thompson is a high-banked 5/8 mile, and one of the fastest places the supers race.
Without the wing, the car was slightly faster at the end of the straights, but was much slower in the middle of the corners. Overall lap times were much faster with the wing.
