I'm not certain, but I've been under the impression that group qualifying was introduced to speed up the show because many people were complaining about single car qualifying taking too long. Seemed like some folks were complaining about not being able to leave the track by 10:30 PM when they attended a USAC show like they could when attending any number of weekly shows that have no qualifying at all and use the pill draw as a starting order. Don't get me wrong......I'm not pointing fingers, I'm just saying that I thought Kevin Miller introduced the group qualifying thing in response to complaints that he had read on this very board.
