I've had two dogs in my life. Sparkey was with me from the time I was 9 years old until I was a Sophomore in College. He was a mutt that I brought home from the dairy farm up the street and went racing with us back when I was a kid. My second dog, Winston who was a mutt as well, we got from the Humane Society and he was with us from our first year of marriage until our 18th anniversary. Both were family and I miss both a great deal.

Sparkey passed away quietly at my Mom and Dad's home while Winston grew very weary and was clearly in pain as it became time for me to "put him down" as they say. Both were sad days and I cried like a baby when the time came.

I may make some of you angry but maybe not if you think about it... isn't it humane of us to be able to put our pets to sleep when the time comes? Now, why in the world can't we do that very same thing for people?
