Hats off to Dave and everyone there. To pull off a feat like that against those odds for as much of the races as we got in was an undertaking of monumental proportions! I never met Mel Johnson, but I guarantee he would have been proud of everyone. The turnout for that race-cars and fans alike-with that weather-speaks volumes about what kind of person he was and what everyone really thinks about Lawrenceburg Speedway. And it's not that the track was barely raceable, it was frickin' awesome! Very smooth (at least from the stands) and was actually widening out as the heats went on, with very good racing.
KC cancelled early, but it looked so bad all morning on the radar for Cincy, I made a mistake and assumed there was no way Burg could run. When I called @ 3:45 to see when it was rescheduled and learned it was still on and sunny, I was shocked! My help had already left. If I knew 2 hrs earlier they weren't cancelled, I'd have brought the car and raced. So all I could do then was go and watch, but it was still worth it!
