On Saturday night May 15th the Midwest TQ Racing League™ presented by Vincennes University will continue their 2010 season with “Little League/Youth Baseball Night” at the Lawrenceburg Speedway in Lawrenceburg, Ind. The MTQRL three-quarter midgets will be sharing the billing with the Lawrenceburg Chevrolet sprints, Budweiser UMP modifieds and the OVS pure stocks. Practice is scheduled for 6:00 pm with racing set to begin at 7:00 pm. General admission is $15 for adults, ages 7-12 are $7, and children 6 and under are free. Also, any youth ball players who enter in uniform will receive free general admission.
In 2009 the MTQRL both opened and closed its season on the 3/8 mile Dearborn County oval. Hometown driver Jason Willis cruised in the opener leading all 20 laps to take the win over Tate Martz, Tim Lynch, Tad Cheek and Kyle Lux.
In the season finale, however, it was a different story as three and at times four wide racing was the norm. 2009 champion Martz took the early lead before relinquishing the point to Nick Speidel on lap 4. Martz continued to hound Speidel regaining the lead for laps 8 thru 14. Speidel again moved back to the front on lap 15 leading the final five laps to score the win over Lynch, Cheek, Zach Cougill and Martz.
Martz is the current point leader after his opening night win this past Saturday at the Shelby County Fairgrounds. Rounding out the top five in the season standings are Kenny Byrge, Speidel, Chris Mann and Chris Guinn.
