Obviously they are trying to do something, whether you agree with it or not, to increase fan excitement and attendance to the event. That tells me that Track Enterprises is not doing well enough with the Hoosier 100 as it is in terms of attendance and profitability.
So maybe they are trying some things (adding the mods, 51 red flag) to get more fans in the stands TO ACTUALLY KEEP THE RACE HAPPENING.
I'd rather have a Hoosier 100 gimmicked a bit than no Hoosier 100 at all.

Where he lost the occasional fan is in the abilty to run an effiecent program.
They say hot laps at 6 qualies at 7 and racing at 8. When was the last time that happened?
You have lots of people that come to town for Indy weekend and want a race a night, but when a race takes forever to run the out of towners who are not SC fans end up at the closest pub and watch NASCAR qualies and can you blame them?
I am quite sure if the race went off on sched. the crowds would come back. An out of towner could see the race go have a cocktail and get some sleep so they could go to The Lil 500 or The Night Before Midgets.
