Speed costs money. How fast do you want to go?
I would love to know who to contribute the following quote to, but this story was told to me by an older, wiser racer that my dad help get started 30 some years ago. I often think of this when I start to lose perspective and get frustrated with my place in the sprint car world...
A guy was leading the points of a series, blew an engine, and had to sit out for a few weeks to rebuild it. In the meantime, he lost the lead of the point championship. When he returned he was asked where he had been, and why he didn't throw something together to maintain his lead.
The driver thought about it for a second and said, "Well, taking food off your family's table doesn't make you more of a racer; it makes you less of a man."
