My thoughts on the sprint car count is as follows -
1) Cold crappy weather with not the best forcast. Can't say anyone has fun spending two days sitting in that weather.
2) Face it, many guys are done racing. They have spent their wad for the season and already got the cars apart getting ready for swap meets.
3) Top teams, getting ready to head out west for two weeks of racing.
4) Two days of pit pass (dollar wise) for one pay out. Plus have to buy a hotel room, food, etc on top of that. Yes, paid 5k to win but only one driver walks out with that. $300 to start is nice but after the costs listed that $300 does not go far.
5) The weather forced teams to either sit two days at L-burg or one day at Kokomo. Seems to me most picked Kokomo.
I'd agree with all that, except had the weather not forced the whole thing into a two day program, the sprint teams would have had to spend THREE days at L'burg, or go home and come back Saturday. so maybe the die was cast before the weather change. Could the revised L'burg schedule had the whole sprint car program on Saturday, allowing the sprint teams so inclined to either go home or go to Kokomo on Sunday? Maybe the DTWC didn't really need the sprint car program, or was there some concern that the LMs couldn't support necessary attendance? I know this thread is about cars..not fans, but with the original schedule, I planned to go to L'burg for the Thursday and Saturday programs and make the trip to Kokomo on Friday. Then came the discussion over one day tickets then the weather problems and I decided to forgo the whole L'burg deal and go to Kokomo. I'm glad I did!!!
