I also have to respectfully disagree with Duke. The problem is not the cars. Between HOSS, AVSS, and USAC, there are over 50 cars. The problem is getting all the cars to the track. For a winged guy to legally run USAC, it's not just a matter of taking the wing off. You have to buy four tires and a HANS device. Now, I have no problem with a HANS, but USAC uses different tires on all four corners. If all three groups would get together, it would be a lot easier for a winged guy to run USAC. And vise versa. And as Geoff Kiaser mentioned, MSA has two tire rule. I think this is a great idea.
I am a mediocre driver at best. And it's still a big deal for me to win a heat race. And nothing's more depressing then rolling out for a heat race a seeing guys with new biscuits on when I've got last weeks feature tire on. The two tire rule would be a great equalizer.
Now I'm going to say something that will shock the snot out of you. And please remember I'm a low dollar car owner/driver. And I'm a big non-winged dirt fan. But I can run pavement cheaper then I can run dirt!
Before all of you think that I've been smoking something I shouldn't, please read all of this. If I go to Gas City, I'd be lucky to make the feature. So, I'd probably be leaving with $50. Add in fuel for the truck, fuel for the car, and two pit passes, and I've lost about $100. And I haven't bought a tire or taken in effect any maintenance.
I could go to Paragon and be guaranteed to make a feature, but it only pays $100. And it's about 3-1/2 hours from home. So I'm probably losing about the same.
But if I run a HOSS race, it's rare for me to not make the feature. It pays at least $290. And even though I need to buy a right rear, I pretty well break even for the night.
But if we had the two tire rule, I think it would be a great equalizer throughout the field. And maybe it's a bit of ego talking, but maybe I could sneak intothe top five a bit more.
