If in fact the burns were caused by hot fluids, the importance of water-based extinguishing agents, like Cold Fire or Fire Aide 2000, are so critical. Not only do they extinguish the fire more effectively, they can and should be sprayed on the driver and his firesuit to "pull" the heat out of the area...and the firesuit needs to be removed immediately if not sooner...the retained heat only makes the potential burning situation worse.
