At first it seems unfair, but for two adults and two kids, bringing the larger coolers would be a money saver in the long run for them; especially if they like an adult beveridge or 10, plus the tracks may not have to carry as much inventory and workers. Lessening spoilage and freeing up cash. Fans get what they want and the track gets what they want.
That said; I'm sure many tracks already have good policies, but just seeing if there is a compromise.
I realize that at a Pacers/Colts or any pro team for that matter, there isn't even a question of coolers, but racing being a traditionally outdoor sport with a less formal feel has usually allowed coolers of some sort.
If you pay the extra $10.00-$15.00 for the larger cooler, you could possibly save $10-$20 for the night.

It's an interesting idea. At Indy, the large coolers have to be parked under the grandstands, so...I had the idea of renting lockers under the grandstands or somewhere convenient (like they do at an airport only to fit a cooler) for X dollars and you put your large cooler in there for the evening and it's in nobody's way in the stands. Nobody could break in if you are holding the key. Just thinking out loud.
Or maybe not.
