Well folks, from someone that was shooting photos at the race, the even money was on Mr. Stanbrough as the feature rolled off. Jon took off at the green, edging out past Chad Boat and Bryan Clauson. He held the spot for the early stages of the race before Brady Short came forward to challenge the group. Brady, like he has especially of late, rocketed to the front on a track that was like a mirror. I told a few guys there tonight that I've never seen a track so black and "mirrored over" that was still so passable. It looked slick, but guys were working to the front all over the sprint feature. Both Brady Short and Kenny Niflis were patient and worked the lanes where their car worked best. Stanbrough was overtaken near the midpoint after building a good lead early. It was amazing to watch some of the guys, including Niflis and Gaines cruise through the field slowly and steadily, picking the spots. What was great to see for Kenny Niflis was that he had to get by a group of three lapped cars on the two-to-go sign and kept his composure to the checkered flag even though I think all of us would have been thinking 'wow, I could win the "Sheldon Kinser Memorial"! All told, wonderful win for a good kid and a special scene in victory lane! Great race!
First trip to shoot the red clay this season, but I wanted to say a special congrats to the track crews, push trucks, safety crews and officials for keeping everything running so well. Pretty quick night overall, 40 sprints, qualifying, a Cmain, Bmain plus the feature and two other classes and I got home from an hour away, by midnight. Good stuff. Bring on Sprint Week!!
