Re: Stanton Overhead Cam Mopar

A previous post had said that the Esslinger was a full-tilt racing engine that wasn't anywhere near a production motor and didn't use any factory parts. I was just showing that that wasn't the case....

Re: Stanton Overhead Cam Mopar

The Esslinger engine is built on the specs for the 2.3l OHC motor and it uses several stock (or equivalent replacement) parts.

You can bolt their heads to a stock block or vice-versa...they use OE...

Re: Chili Bowl wrap-up

Both of the Swindell motors are legal anywhere. Kevin's was a 19k dollar sealed "EST" motor that ran all year in Kyle Hamilton's pavement car. It's for sale, BTW.

Sammy's is a 12 y-o TST...

Re: Mike Minarik Titanium Midget

There was a DOHC Honda and 7 EFI Esslingers at this year's CB, including 2 of the top 4 qualifiers (K, Swindell and Kruseman).

I'm not sure that it's a matter of them being "afraid" of the RRE...

Re: USAC Sets RPM Limits For Midgets

If someone was dumb enough to turn one that high, he was wasting his time and wasting parts. 10 years ago, they had the short heads and they just flat don't breathe up that high.

Re: USAC RPM Story

That's good to hear. :6:

The stock Ecotec cranks were pretty fragile (hollow rod journals?) when the sport-compact guys were running them back when.

Re: USAC Sets RPM Limits For Midgets

With the MSD guys?

It's pretty easy to do with those. Frankly, I'm surprised they even allow the boxes with alternate timing curves.

Re: USAC RPM Story

Gonna have to dump the MEFI and get a better crank if you want to play with the big boys. :2:

Re: USAC RPM Story

They're more shooting for the Focus or Ecotec racer. Same car, different motor. The other cool thing about the EST is that it uses about 1/3 less fuel (!!!) and it runs WAY cleaner oil-wise. It...

Re: USAC Sets RPM Limits For Midgets

I'm sure that anyone can "say" it, but it's not going to happen with the Esslinger deal. It's already possible (and pretty easy, BTW) with any of the programmable MSD boxes. The Electromotive box...

Re: USAC Sets RPM Limits For Midgets

The Esslinger motors have a few more inches because they are actually a production-based design. The ST (and EST now) uses lots of stock parts and dimensions. The CORR/TORC/Lucas Pro-lite guys run...

Re: USAC Sets RPM Limits For Midgets

It's pretty easy on a crank-triggered ignition, like an electromotive or MSD. Plug in a signal generator set to something just over the limit and if you have spark, you're busted. :3:
