Courtney, of Indianapolis, has already made two starts in the CMR No. 7BC – December’s “Junior Knepper 55” USAC Midget Special Event at the Southern Illinois Center in Du Quoin and this past Tuesday night’s “Chili Bowl Midget Nationals” opening night preliminary feature in Tulsa, Okla.* Both of those races resulted in victories for Courtney and CMR. A veteran of USAC racing since 2012, the 22-year-old Courtney, nicknamed “Sunshine,” has recently come into his own over the past season as he consistently finished up front in a partial USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car National schedule in 2016.* His most impressive performance of the bunch came in July’s “Indiana Sprint Week” round at Gas City I-69 Speedway where he stormed from the tail of the field (24th) to win his first career series race. In addition to his previously announced intentions to run the full USAC Sprint schedule with TOPP Motorsports in 2017, the 2013 USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car “Rookie of the Year” will tackle his first run at a USAC National Midget title.* Courtney has only a smattering of USAC National Midget starts in his career, 16 to be exact, since his debut in 2012.* Though his best finish is a ninth at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wisc. in 2014, Courtney was impressive in a solid third-place run at a USAC Indiana Midget Championship event in Sept. of 2016 at Daugherty Speedway in Boswell, Ind. Courtney will be teaming up with car owners Tim Clauson and Richard Marshall for the 27-race slate, which begins on Saturday, March 18 in the "Shamrock Classic" at the Southern Illinois Center in Du Quoin, the site of his December 2016 victory at the one-sixth-mile dirt oval. |
