Merrill Downey Memorial July 2nd $4,444 to win!

Lawrenceburg Speedway, Lawrenceburg Safety Crew and several sponsors again team up to pay tribute for former LM and Stock Sportsman Champion Merrill Downey. Merrill passed way to young and was a fan of all the divisions long after he left the drivers side. It was hard not to like the guy and easy to call him friend as he always had a howdy or time to chat.

Set up to honor his memory,
This race pays $4,444 for mods.
Has several extra earning goals such as:
$444 for fast time
$444 dash
$44 dollars a lap to lead the feature
Im sure I left a few incentives and contingencies out. But it's possible to win close to $9,000 I don't have the full list of payout etc. The last one I attended the winner went home with over $7k and the second place guy over $5k
44 lap feature
Also Late Models. $1,500 to win

Bobby Gomph (Safety Crew Leader) and the Crew, has built this into a premier event getting a lot of the purse through sponsorship's of many businesses in at least a sixty mile radius. All who will be mentioned and posted at the event. Make sure to thank everyone involved.

Many top teams and Cincinnati area top teams will be there!

See you there! One of these I went too had Joey Kramer and a 10 car who's name escaping me at the moment race side by side for over 25 of the 44 lap feature with Joey finishing first. The second was equally exciting and I think Hoffman won late in the race. I missed last year.

#10 car was Bryan Barber from Greensburg, Ky.

This is always one of my favorite events of the year. Hoping we have a great Modified count and great crowd to support it! Previous winners are:

2012- Devin Gilpin
2013- Joey Kramer
2014- Nick Hoffman
2015- Tyler Nicely

Looking forward to a great show!

Yeah, I've been to the first three, Missed last year.
Merrill told me he loved the sprints, just never had enough nerve to race them and admired the one's who do, As I said, he was a true fan of all the classes and friends with most.

Thanks for the added info. This isn't a press release post, I don't work for the track a all. Just a FYI for those who want to see a good show. Still qualifies as Open Wheel (At least three wheels anyway) and Honor Merrill! :)

Seen a couple post on another thread that say they choose from what they see is going on from IOW so I thought I'd spread the word.

Great night at the track. 60 mods 20 LM's and a bigger than sprint week crowd. Great turnout all around. Viktor Lee won and led every lap bring home nearly seven thousand but there were good runs through the pack. Former Winner of the MDM Hoffman started 17 and came on strong running the middle to finish third. LOCAL David Spille gained a few possitons to finish second and Kramer who started near the tail used the high line in one and two to finish sixth.

Full results here, Click expanded info on each class for full run down of heats and features. Unofficial of course. http://www.speednetdirect.com/results.php?track_id=8771

Also was no Swat team, FBI surveillance or Mafia presence without the section A Chain Gang in attendance.

Next up Sprint Week! sunday! Sunday!! SUNDAY!!!!!!!

I saw some pictures and short video clips from last night's races and it looked like a great crowd. Kudos to Dave Rudisell and Lawrenceburg for putting late models on the card at a weekly sprint track in Indiana. Wish I could have made it.

The LM heats had some action,But the feature was a runaway by Hensley and very little passing.

Track stayed good all night till LM feature after the MDM 44 lapper Cut out by the LMs with a nice cushion in hotlaps. Then the Mods took it to the wall. It got a few dips in one and two for hot laps and qualifying but for heats it got wide for the first two then the track narrowed in heats three through six. Widened back out by LM heats and three Mod Consi's. One which Kramer started last and finished first.

I was impressed with the fan and car turnout. Merrill would have been proud! For as much racing as there was. 10 mod races including the 44lap feature. Twenty three car qualifying sessions. Four LM Races including feature with three Hotlaps.

Whole show done 11:05 It drizzled all night but not enough to wet anything :8::8::8:
