It doesn't seem possible, but 25 years have passed since we lost Rich Vogler at Salem. I was in attendance that evening. Rich put on a display of driving that was unbelievable; he was so dominant that he was preparing to lap second place Jeff Gordon when the accident occurred. I still miss him!

Ron You're not alone in missing him RIP Rich :22:

Absolutely one of the best I've seen. His versatility with pavement and dirt, winning on both frequently, and midget, sprint or silver crown, Rich could do it all. I often wonder where he would have ended up had it not been for his tragic accident. I feel privileged to have been able to watch him race.

He was the real deal, that's for sure.

I missed the Salem race on TV, but I remember finding out about the tragedy when I tuned into the NASCAR race at Pocono that he had qualified for earlier. Sad deal all the way around it was.
Man.... 25 years..... |

I remember watching that race on TV. It was very sad day.
I only got to see Rich race one time in a Midget at Williams Grove and he won that night. He was so much faster than the others for that race. |
Re: July 21, 1990
I remember I was leaving the Kings Royal and heard someone say "Vogler was killed" It was like someone gut punched me. The whole drive home (5 hours ) spent it dialing the radio trying to found if it was true. Never found out till home and turned on ESPN Sports Center even then just couldn't believe it. :22:
