Great to see somebody take over this little track again..

I was wondering if you could post a sliding scale of the purse so us racers could be able to see what we were racing for if that magic 20th car does not show up. How much do we loose per car through the field if we come up with a short field. Most of us race on the assumption that the field won't be there and we will be racing for a much smaller purse and that keeps a lot of us home. Racers take a lot of chances anyhow it would be nice not to have to bet on the purse also.

It would really be nice to take another of Harold Hunter's Ideas up at Montpelier and raise the purse when the field passes a certain number. This Idea could help get a lot of racer to get their cars out of the barn.

We are thinking about your race seriously (save 300 miles on my old hauler) but we would probably be late>>>>Friday night is not a good night for Hobby racers that have to hold down a job.

This could possibly be the raciest and one of the best track for Midget racing in Indiana !!!:6::6:

I was just going to post that DAD. I know it says 300 guaranteed to win, is it 50 guaranteed to start? As long as my cars done by Friday I'll probably be there to check it out. Love that little race track!

All i know guys is the promoter said it is guaranteed 300 to the winner if not more . As for start all i know is if 20 cars 50 over 20 its more

Just start at $300.00 and work backwards this way we have no misunderstanding.

He said it's 300 guaranteed and sounds like 50 to start guaranteed too, no need to work backwards.
I plan on making at least a few trips south in support of the effort, but probably on weekends that Montpelier doesn't run.

Actually, Dad's got a point; a payout sheet would be helpful but even the one that he posted the link to has the same payout for last, whether it's 8 cars or 20. First doesn't suffer, the last 4 don't suffer but the middle takes a bit of a hit...

Their are all kinds of racers>>>>Most look at the win part and never look any further. I used to help promote Mini Sprints in conjunction with a monster truck show here in Louisville. The promoter didn't want a lot of cars and allowed me to invite cars to race. The purse wasn't too big>>>he gave nice trophys>>>and free passes to the show for the competitors. I asked one racer if he would be interested and he told me out right that he wouldn't race for such a small purse. I promoted it for the publicity for mini Sprints and despite the small purse it was a very big race around here (10,000 fans in some years) People still use a win there in their racing resume.

Other racers don't pay a lot of attention to the win part of the purse but only to the pay out in the middle and the show money. They know what it cost them to go racing on a good night with no problems and race for that amount. If we go to Montpelier I know that $125.00 won't quite get me back home so we need to finish in the middle to pay for gas and food. I don't intend to make money but loose as little as possible.

Most races always have 4 or 5 possible winners and the rest of us are running to support the habit. If you keep the win money and make the show money the same the only way to make your money back is in the middle of the pack.

Harold on the other hand has chosen to keep his purse the same whether 10 cars or 20 cars>>>By doing so he is also developing a quality consistent car count. We call that "deferred gratification" he chose to take a little bigger hit at the start in order to keep his regular cars coming back. If I had the ambition to run a race track I would definitely like to take a class or to from Harold. Good business people make good promoters.

Remember this: track owners and promoters spend as much $$ or more time on getting the track race ready and getting the fans there as each racer spends getting his car ready to race. It is very tough on all of us but we ALL have to work together and it has to be a give and take deal anymore....the last couple of years have been testy to say the least but as we grow with our car count and the D-2 rules as written sure helps as far as cost efficiency on engines with the % of $$ that is quite better. We also have a belief that it cost each and every racer the same amount of $$ to get to the track and the same to get in the track therefore we believe in a good breakdown and not all on top.

16-20 cars
400 to win 100 to start

21 or more cars
500 to win 100 to start

I think racers are starting to take into account that the promoters are not the cut throats we felt them to be many years ago. I said this a long time ago that running most race tracks will not make you enough money to by a new Corvette but if you didn't run a race track there would be a pretty good chance you might be able to get a loan to buy one. Publishing the pay out is much better than having the racers think the worst.

Racers need to look at track owners as a partner and visa versa. We really do need one another. and anybody that preps a race track and also a couple of race cars every week probably has some wips and handcuffs hidden under the bed.:D
