Atomic Speedway Announces the 2014 KC/Atomic Hall of Fame Inductees
Spike Spears, Jim Meeker, Harry and Tony Martin, Dale Jones, Gerald Palmer and the Karshner Family will be inducted into the KC/Atomic Hallof Fame on Saturday Night May 24th. “The Golden Spike” Spike Spears always a fan favorite due to his contagious smile and always upbeat attitude will lead the way once again as the early sprint and modified Ace makes his way to Victory Lane once again. The night that “The Cigar Kid” told people he was hanging up his helmet surely surprised people, what was not a surprise was that at the end of the night Jim was once again in the winners circle, a place he was very familiar with. Harry Martin and his son Tony, Harry, the man behind many of the early write-ups and photos who helped put “The Atomic” on the map with his stories and photos and son Tony who continued the tradition and writer of the book Echoes of Thunder in the Hills. As a added bonus Tony will be on hand to sign the book for the race fans, please feel free to bring your copy and copies will be available to purchase at the track. Dale Jones, early racer and Chillicothe business man who actually raced in the first event at the fabled high banks on Blain Hwy and later went on to be a successful sprint and midget car owner in USAC. Gerald “Palmer to the judges stand” Palmer, if it needed repaired Palmer was the man who took care of it, and always with a smile on his face. Anything from the backstretch lights to the phone in the ticket booth he had them working every Saturday night. When Atomic Speedway was setting empty it was the entire Karshner Family that got together with Chillicothe business man Ralph Cooper to purchase and resurrect the speed plant. It was under their ownership that the keystone events such as “The Night The Stars Come Out” and “The Freedom 40” came to be. So be sure to join us for a great night of memories and racing on May 24, 2014 |

Thanks Howard! It's J.T., lol. I was a fan of yours as a kid watching you race T.Q.s, and we raced together some when you were running Sager's Mini-Sprint in 1996/1997.
I still remember a U.M.R.A. race that you Won at Osgood, right at the stripe over Goff! Do you remember that? |
