Indy Qualifications

If I understand correctly; all qualify Saturday. Sunday, the top 9 run for the pole at the end of the day. Everyone else can either qualify again or stand on their Saturday run. May be a good reason to go back out on Sunday this year.

I believe 10-33 have to qualify again on Sunday no matter what. That would mean that everybody qualifies on both Saturday and Sunday. The weekend will keep us busy, and hopefully entertained.

I believe too everyone 10-33 re-qualifies. What I'm not sure of is if 1-9 re qualify to set the fast 9 order or if it's based on Saturdays time. Regardless, I think this is a good move. Sunday has been pretty pointless lately. If they get only 33 cars, Saturday will be pointless though.

Saturday is bump day if they have more than 33. Then everybody goes back out on Sunday to determine position. 10-33 have one session earlier in the day to set their spots. Then the fast 9 have a one run shoot out to determine the pole and first three rows. All cars in Sunday sessions will go out from slowest to fastest as well. I agree they are giving people a reason to go out for both days for the first time in a while.

Still a little confused by the new format. If you're not a top nine car, why is there any incentive to go fast on Saturday? Assuming there will be just enough cars to fill the field, which has been the norm for the past several years.

The release said there will be series points incentives for both days which I assume are put in place to try and get teams to run hard each day. I still think if there are only 33 the last couple of rows aren't likely to push on Saturday. Especially if they are one off teams or low budget teams.

Thanks for the clarification. Still think that throwing in the option of standing on your Saturday time would have made both days more important and entertaining.

Re: Indy Qualifications

It just all seems irrelevant to me. We went to Indy qualifications to see who would get the pole, who would make the show and if there would be a new track record set. I'm glad that they are committed to increasing speeds to see the track record fall, but it just seems like they are trying to find some elusive magic for the qualification days that, in all actuality, was pretty simple.

No problem with the format though. Just ready to do it. Come on May!
