A Rookie's First Post
As a technophobic 54 year old who has never posted anything on any forum, I hope I am doing this right. After reading IOW forum for a couple of years now, I thought I should join the fun. I first learned of this site when my brother and I came out to Indiana Sprint Week a couple years ago(the year the water truck entered the backstretch under green at Brownstown). A little about myself. I grew up watching the modified to supermodified to traditional sprint car evolution at the Jackson VFW Speedway in Jackson, Minnesota in the 60's and 70's. Then they put the wings on in the early 80's. After several years of enduring the winged parades, I decided it was time to venture out of southwestern Minnesota. Some of the following tracks have become my favorites: Terre Haute, Angel Park, Belleville. One of the best races I've ever seen was Frankie Kerr's win over the California guys when the SCRA came to Terre Haute back the 90's. I haven't gotten back to Indiana nearly enough since then, but had a blast at my first ISW. This June, my family and I are planning on coming out for most of Indiana Midget Week. I like the idea of nonwing sprints as a support class to midgets----man, you Indiana fans live in open-wheel heaven. I guess there's really not much point to this post, other than to introduce myself. I hope to meet some of you folks in June. The plan is to hit Gas City, Lincoln Park and Bloomington for midgets, then Lincoln Park again for their weekly sprints before heading home.

Re: A Rookie's First Post
Welcome aboard Traditional Fan. We here in the Hoosier state are spoiled for sure. When you get here for midget week, I'm sure you won't be disappointed. Traditional sprints as the undercard to the midgets is open wheel heaven. You should have plenty of opportunity to meet some of the IOW finest. They seem to be hanging out at the track no matter which one you attend. I hope you enjoy the hospitality that Indiana folks pass around. Look forward to meeting you come race time. Don't be a stranger either here on the board.

Welcome Traditional...
As a St. Louis'an, I too have to make the drive into Indiana for some of the best non-wing racing in the country. Though, non wing stuff does seem to be catching hold in Western Missouri. My favorites are the Silver Crown cars on the dirt miles, love Haubstadt, hope to make the big show in Kokomo in August this year. I still have not met enough of my fellow IOW'ers. Hope to change that this Summer though ___________________ Darren |

Traditional Fan, welcome aboard. Yes , we're blessed, and am I thankful for it. Where else in the world, do you have a choice of up to 10 different tracks running non wing stuff on a weekend. Life is good.

Re: A Rookie's First Post
Welcome aboard Traditional Fan. Hope you'll make it a point to post here often and especially to let us know which events you'll be attending so we can do a "meet n' greet". Until then, stay warm and try to keep 'er tween the ditches, what with another round of snow and ice moving in. :32:
