Red Hills Raceway/Speedway?

Anyone know of what happened to this track in Sumner, IL..?? I looked for it online and no results. Last i knew it was purchased by a sprint car racer from Terre Haute, i think. Can't remember his name. Too many :32::32::32:...Never have seen any kind of schedule or if it's even open...

It's been closed for several years.

Neat place, and beautiful facility. Caught a few races there. Too bad it's closed.

I understand it has fallen into a state of disrepair; would need a lot of work to bring it back. Too bad; it was a nice facility with an electronic scoreboard and a grandstand that seated 5500. I think the racing was adversely affected when the wall was put in on the infield side of the track.

I've been by a few times when I'm back in Illinois and we're on the way to Haubstadt. They had it mowed for a quite a few years, but the last couple its been left alone. I looked at it on google maps and it appears that nature is starting to reclaim the track itself.

If you ask me this was the fastest most bad ass place under a half mile around. Jim mills sunk a bunch of money in it and facility and track were awesome. Around 2003 he had red clay from a construction project my dad did in Bloomington, in trucked to sumner, il non stop for about a month. The red clay lived up to it's reputation as it had a ton of bite in it, high speed is an understatement. I believe they had trouble with city government that closed the doors eventually but i remember running 3 times there and May have been another race I missed. Damn shame it shut down id like to hear the real issues stopping it from going forward

I live about 8 miles from the track and it is a crime that it is sitting silent. We were told that the main reason it shut down was a dispute with the county/city over liquor sales, but there was probably more to it than that.
