Sherwin Armstrong dies at 55
Sherwin Armstrong has died at the age of 55-years old on Sunday February 10 after an extended illness. Born on December 12, 1957, Armstrong was the son of USAC Indy Car, Sprint Car & Midget Car owner Sherman Armstrong.
Sherwin raced midgets from 1981 to 1984. His best career finish was third in the inaugural 4 Crown Nationals USAC Midget Feature at Eldora in 1981. He was 19th in the 1981 USAC National Midget Points. Armstrong suffered a crushed vertebra, broken collarbone, nose and finger during a heat race accident in the USAC/Badger co-sanctioned event on June 1, 1984 at Hales Corners Speedway (Franklin, WI), ending his driving career. Armstrong was hospitlaized for several days in a Milwaukee Hospital following back surgery. His brother Sherman "JR" Armstrong also competed in USAC and various series during the 80's. A memorial service for Sherwin will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Beeson Clubhouse 900 Beeson Dr Winchester, IN on Sunday, Feburary 24. |

I was at Hales Corners June 1 1984. It was a bad
one. My thoughts-prayer's with Armstrongs. Always enjoyed watching the brother's race. Late post. Best Regards, John |
