I was just thinking.....
2012 has been another good year of racing for me. I gave up counting the races I go to,but a good guess is between 75 and 100.I figure thats pretty good for a guy that also works 5 days a week too.Sometimes I just dont get as much sleep.
It seems weird to not see Aero multiple times every weekend this year. I kidded him about taking Morty's place as IOW Unofficial "Missing fan of the year" He claimed to have been at 25 races this year, but I didnt see him 25 times this summer! The best social scene in Indiana on any given weekend during the summer is at Bob & Monica's Motorhome. I was hoping the LPS Thursday night races would be a hit at the box office. Its an easy commute for me. It feels strange sitting home on Sunday nights in August when you'd rather be at Kokomo Speedway. Years ago I used to carefully plan out "doubles" going to 2 races in one day. This year I didnt plan any,but made it to 2 of them. First was The Speedrome World Figure 8 race to Putnamville, and the 2nd was Little Belleville to Tri City for 2 midget races in one night. Both times I had only planned one 1 race that night, but when opportunity knocks....answer the door! I stopped in to Eagle Raceway on my way from McCool Junction to US 36 and wished they had a midget race there. I might have to go there next year for the USAC sprint race. The Kokomo Smackdown was my most anticipated race of the season, and it didnt let me down. Its already my most anticipated race for 2013. Had a good time at the July 3rd race at Waynesfield. They had like 48 winged 360s,31 or so non wing 410s and a ton of modifieds, but it was good racing all night, and I'll be back next year. I sometimes wonder why more tracks dont run around the 4th of July. It always used to be one of the larger crowds of the season at my home track when I was growing up. I miss the Focus,Kenyon and regional midget shows at Mt Lawn, and Anderson.Cheap entertainment for a Wednesday night. I miss going to Van Craft on Gasoline Alley and talking racing with Van (RIP) and watching him hammer sheets of aluminum into Kurtis midget bodies. Fascinating to watch. You also never knew who would be walking thru his door for well known racing personalities. If you werent at the Arnie Knepper memorial race this year, you missed watching a great drive from Rico Abreau who spun out while leading to restart at the rear and charge thru for the win. Likewise watching Daron Clayton and Chase Stockon come from the back to the front at Haubstadt in September. The race of the year for me. I think Morty is a closet Late Model fan. At the first POWRi midget race at Little Belleville,it was run with Late Models, and I have always been curious just HOW they run on such a small track. Morty was filling me in with so much Late Model Trivia,I felt I was sitting next to the LM version of Kevin Eckert!I left there a lot smarter than when I went in. I find there are a lot of people that just look at IOW and never post anything here though. I hope they have a few non wing races at North Vernon next year. Same with Danville Illinois. Getting to new tracks is more difficult when you only go to watch non wing sprints or midgets. I got to 5 new tracks this year though,so I thought it was a pretty good year. Bubba Raceway Park in Florida,Brownstown Illinois,Peoria Illinois, Clay County Illinois, and Beloit Kansas. I'm glad they had another "reunion" at Jungle Park Speedway this year. Its cool going there and walking around the place and wondering what the racing was like there years ago. Feel free to add in your own stuff to the list............ |

Re: I was just thinking.....
Really enjoyed your recap of the past season. You are a lucky person to be able to follow that many events. I would say that could make you an authority on alot of racing. Thanks!

i met some amazing new people this year, i seen 66 sprint car events and only THREE late model races. amazing stat on a personal level for me.
already stoked for smackdown 2 kokomo grand prix is hopefully going to follow in smackdowns footsteps. they are working on getting some of the ARDC guys out as well, hopefully they dont have a race that weekend. needless to say heres hoping for an amazing 2013. and i will be making a little belleville debut this year. bucket list track Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: I was just thinking.....
I made it to 39 races last year.
I only made it to two new tracks last year. While I enjoy going to new tracks, it is getting harder for me to get to new tracks because most trips now are requiring an overnight stay. The price of gas did make a difference in the tracks that I went to last year. I did stay closer to home. It is time for me to buy a new car with better gas mileage than my truck. The truck was good to pull a race car to the track, but it is not good as a driver. I have four trips on my schedule for next year that will require an overnight stay that I want to go to. Too bad I can only afford one maybe two of these trips. |
Re: I was just thinking.....
Had a pretty good year, 33 so far and 3PPVs Highlights MSCS/Kiss at THAT, Burg MSCS .91 second win by TMez over The Stash. 3 BOSS series shows that I enjoyed a bunch.
So. Ohio was only new track. Juggling Idea of going to Battle at the Center. Five + hours each way. Wish everyone a Merry XMas and great New Year. |
My Recap on the 2012 race season is my best season yet! I after many years was able to do what every race fan wants to do! I got to race a tq midget 31 times. Went to many new tracks. Also got to do what no one wants to do. Wreck a tq midget! ... won a few heat races. Got fast time once. And never missed a race! :) also made a few sprint races. And a few midget races. Cant wait to race again next year!

Re: I was just thinking.....
I had a pretty good year; 47 races so far. I need to update my races attended total; don't think I've done anything with it since June or July. I was at the Arnie Knepper Memorial and the September race at Haubstadt, and I agree with ASQ's opinion.
Another highlight for me was watching Parnelli take three laps in Ol' Calhoun on Pole Day. Loved hearing that Offy run! |
I had a great racing season started at Bubba's and ended at the Burg. I enjoyed every race I seen. Can't wait till the 2013 season starts and I'll be back with my racing family.

Re: I was just thinking.....
Novel Idea there, Ol' Andy thinking.
I might have to to Kokomo just so I can have an opinion in case something happens. Smackdown only. Watched a video of Shuman vs. the Flagman at Kokomo, Funny stuff right there. I hate it when it is obvious the the guy isn't getting on it & the other guy gets penalized. Never seen Ol' Andy at Bob & Monica's when they are at Waynesfield. Good folks that Bob & Monica, Andy not so sure. Ya know I'm just kiddin. I might just have to snooker my way to Morris, Il. for the midget show in August. I know I will be back for the Bill Waite Memorial at Lasalle. I will never get to as many tracks as The Quinn man, I am envious. |
