Honda cbr 1000
 

Can anyone tell me if anyone is having trouble racing the Honda CBR 1000 engine...do you need a modified sump,dry sump,any info would very much appreciated

I have a buddy who came back to lightning sprints a few years ago after a 10 year layoff. He bought a used roller and put a bone stock off the bike on gas CBR1000 in it. It got hot on him the first night, so he opened up the hood a little to flow air better, and restricted the water flow a bit. After that, he won several races while running a limited schedule with the KC area MLS...there are several good car/driver combos in that series, a couple of whom are really really fast and my buddy kinda made em mad with his stock motor. My point is, to my knowledge he has had no issues whatsoever with the engine. I will try to get in touch with him and make sure he didn't have to do any other mods to it to make it be so bulletproof.

Looks to me like the cbr pan is like most motorcycles pans have the oil pick up in a deep central part of the pan. When setting flat in a race car first the motor will sit awfully tall in the car and since the car does not lean like a motorcycle the oil might be pulled out of the sump under hard cornering. Dry sump is neat but it sure can cause problems in a race car I know.

Most racers would cut the pan and add alluminum plate to make a flat pan, then they would move the oil pickup to the right rear of the pan. there are some guys up here doing that and probably some guys down there doing it also.

Contact 600rrracing.com they'll modify your oil pan and pickup for $160. The years they list are for 07 thru 09 but the years 04 thru 07 are the same motor just slight differences between 04-05 and 06-07. Going to have mine done as soon as I get around to it.
