Is this the last Silver Crown Champion
Is this the last Silver Crown Champion ?

You have 6R gone , along with 4 or 5 cars. You have Tracy Hines and Bud Kaeding both gone, and God only knows how many more are going to disappear over the winter. I have ALWAYS been a supporter of the Champ Cars, and have been from Stafford Springs to Phoenix to watch them run.I just hope that the Saturday night in Terre Haute wasn't the last time I get to see them run.Only time will tell. |
I hope so too! That is one of the few types of open wheel cars I haven't drove yet and definitely want to before I hang my helmet up!

I think it'll turn around now with the fuel monarchy over and what I've read about guys saying they're coming back. I'd venture to guess Kunz will get his car back out with another star at the wheel. Conover said he's putting his back together. I thought I read Sharon's car will be back. There's plenty of cars that quit before or during the season for what usac says is for different reasons (fuel) IMO The series survives with all the single car teams. Not the big money muti-car teams. With the ethanol thing now an option, not a mandate, the guys not willing or not able to spend thousands extra for dyno time, R&D, etc. can now come back out with their old engine combination and pick right up where they left off. Instead of this being the end lets hope this is a new beginning. We got what we wanted with ethanol no longer required. Lets see if that does what we hoped it would do.

Just like going to the gold crown cars, when you do things to make car owners go away, its a slow recovery, there is many more issues other than the fuel change and its not the economy.

You'd know far better than me but I'm thinking I know what you're referring too. We plan on competing for the first time in 2013 on a partial schedule. Hope you're there.

Car count before gold crown cars was 50 to 60, when teams sit out for a year or two, sometimes the intrest or sponsors just isn't there anymore. It took a few years for the car count to begin to grow again and then go and do they same thing again. Why.

The why is money, at least the last 2 times this happened.

Re: Is this the last Silver Crown Champion
I think he'll be classified as the last champ of what we presently call the Silver Crown series. The new owners of this division (or division like it) will call it something else.

Re: Is this the last Silver Crown Champion
I don`t think usac is ready to get out or drop this series. Hopefully carl edward, hoffman, sharon, conover can and will come back. It was a mistake to force teams to switch fuels! But the economy has been a bigger problem. The team can go back to the tradition fuel, but no one can fix this economy.
