Rich Vogler

Hard to believe he's been gone for 22 years. Have so many memories
of this great driver. Never forget when he was involved in a crash in
1987 at Indy-he jumped in his plane to run Angell Park to run his midget
for the Usac show the same night. He would have been 62. I sure will
never forget all the great races I've seen him in.
Best Regards,
John:32:

Me either. He was one of my heroes as a kid! Whether he was in a Sprint, Midget, Champ Car, Indy Car, or even a Stock Car. The weekend he was killed at Salem, he qualified for his first Winston Cup start at Pocono for the next day. He never got to realize his full potential. He would no doubt be the all time USAC leader in Wins in all 3 divisions if he was alive today! Miss you Rich! Miss your son D.J. too! Also have got to know Eleanor over the last 6 or 7 years and she is a wonderful lady!

Rich was a racer! He wanted to win everything from hot laps to the feature. RIP

I was quite fortunate to have had a lengthy conversion with Rich at the Chili Bowl that year. He outlined his plan which was to include a move towards NASCAR. The Missing Man Formation at Pocono the day after his death was one of the few tributes that NASCAR got right.

I remember watching Rich on the old Thursday night thunder and when Usac would swing through the local tracks that we visited week in and week out. Just wondering if anyone ever made a documentry on his career? Herd many stories about him and his accomplishments are widely praised. Just wondering if there is 1 place to set down and see just what all he accomplished and who all he raced with. To me its pretty cool to go back and check out the path drivers took to the top.

If you haven't read and able to get a hold of it John Sawyer wrote a book on Rich's life called "No Time For Yesterday-Rich Vogler : His Life 1950-1990" published by Carl Hungness.

What happened to DJ ?

D.J. passed away about 2 or 3 years ago now. Very very sad. He was only like 25 range. Don't want to go into details out of respect for Eleanor.
