Am I the only one or is this just dumb? ASCS 360

I know im not the only one to think about it as I've had discussions with several who say the same.

Would it be wise or not for a Indiana track or two to go with 360 with the ASCS head rule?

IMHO its the only way to grow the sport getting engines to run 45-50 races vs 20-30.

Your views? Personally, I don't think the fans in the stands would tell much difference at all.

It's worth a shot. I think the ascs 360 is great. Still you can get in the 30-40k range with a powerhouse motor like an Al Parker or Aaron Long Comp motor, ect. But me personally would like to see it ran at one or a few tracks.

Im just saying keep the 410 for specials. (Or not)

Many teams already have one.

I know it was Jesse Hockett but I seen him come from the tail to third at Eldora with one vs the 410s

Shuman won a Lps last year with a 360

I think everyone's goin to put the initial purchase price that they can afford, Be it 10g+ for a rebuilt/used to the 30+ new.

Its the number or rebuilds or total replacements being cut over half that really saves the $$$ Just seems to me these things are blowing up like Grenades anymore. Destroying blocks, Cranks.

Just seems to me, More people would get into it if they had a bit more assurance of the MAJOR expense lasting longer. (No guarantees with anything in racing) But its proven itself.

I live in Kansas City which is served by two ASCS regions (Midwest and Warriror) We also have a lot of National shows in the area. The one thing that is common is that the car counts for all ASCS shows have gone down. Obviously, there are two big reasons. 1) The economy is tough on everyone 2) ASCS greatly reduced their purse structure over the winter. At one time ASCS could do no wrong, but not they have as many critics as the other major sanctions.

There is a post on hoseheads asking why we are spending 30K to 40K for 360 motors. It deffinitely is not a economical class to be in. As long as there are 410's around, I would hold on to the 410's as long as possible. When/If you go to a 360 motor for weekly racing and save 410's for specials, over time none of the local teams will have a 410. This is why in the entire state of Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas, you would be lucky to find 10 sprint car teams with a 410 motor.

I don't get what needs to grow, in Indiana most normal Saturday nights has anywhere from 60 to 90+ sprint cars running at 3 different race tracks. Pick any other state in country and you will be luck to find 60 cars running on a regular basis let alone on the same night.

Why do some think there needs to be a change to make things better, Indiana has the best sprint car racing scene in the United States. I used to have to drive 6 hours to run my car when I lived in Las Vegas. In Indiana the furthest I would have to drive would be a couple hours to race on any Saturday night, The truth is the same for any fan.

I run on a very limited budget out of my own pocket and if I were force to have to down size an engine I just built (a steel block 406) and buy new heads, I would be done and not be able to race for at least a season. Don't assume that all that have sprint cars have an unlimited budget and can just up and scrap what they have. I know from being around that there are a lot more guys like me than most people realize so In my personal opinion I say no. We have it pretty good her in Indiana so lets look at the glass as half full not half empty.

i think sprint car racing in Indiana is so strong because they have 1 set of rules no matter where they go and for the most part its been consistent for many years. So a car owner can go to any track they want with what they have vs. having to change a car over or having to increase their inventory. Which in the long run is more $$$. I think another class would only dilute the sprint cars in the area, spreading them out, which would most likely lower the car counts for everybody.

I wanna know why another thread was started about a spec engine Indiana? Seems this topic comes up fairly frequently. All this is doing is wasting IOW server space.

I am willing to bet that the cost to rebuild a 360 vs 410 is roughly in the same ball park. I wouldn't expect it to out last a 410 either. I don't understand that fans want tracks or promoters to implement more rules for their existing racers. Believe it or not, rules only complicate things further (example, Ethanol in the crown series) . Why would one track mandate an engine rule to possible drive competitors away to another track that has had the same rules for the last 30 years?

What I am getting at is why mess up a good thing? I go to races expecting to watch track records being broke and history being made, not to watch it go in the opposite direction...
