Ahh...Braze...

While hanging with my mate Jamie Cobby I got a chance to get to know young Garry Brazier. One amazingly gifted race car driver for sure. Attacked a racetrack like not many I have ever seen. Unfortunately, his lone downside was that rather large chip on his shoulder, which led him into trouble a lot. I remember seeing him banned from the All-Stars "for life" during the Bert Emick regime. On video anyway...

He's a driver that could have ruled the world if he wanted to. Stateside, as well as Down Under. Alas, he threw it all away. Anytime I hear that he has resurfaced again, I am glad because it reminds you of, "what if...", but then he usually reminds you why he is viewed as such a pariah in the world of sprint car racing shortly thereafter.

Garry Brazier; the Austalian version of Randy Tiner. Two supremely talented race car drivers who simply "do not play well with others".

DM - "Poor soul. You were just too high strung...It would appear that the strain was more than he could bear". - Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday, 'Tombstone'

I remember seeing the highlights of that race on the old Speedweek program on ESPN. He came after Kenny Jacobs on the track at KC Raceway?

Thanks Dean and Co.

Hunters run is living proof a team can turn it around in a night and why USAC needs a C main. I'd of paid to see that run alone.

Would have made the race and was in the area but with other people with other plans :(

In a USAC format, he likely would have qualified fairly well. And if he had qualified poorly, he still could have propelled through the C and/or B Main, just as he did Sunday night. A bent nerf bar in the heat race made him work this hard on Sunday night - how can that make any more sense than the USAC format?

Did I mention that Daron Clayton likely would have won without passing a car all night, nor qualifying well, had he not had engine trouble?

True Kirk and not arguing that, Im just saying more racing of a top division is better than less and anything can happen. Yeah he had to pass a lot of inexperienced and sub par equiptment but thats part of the deal and some of those probably found the setup or a advantage by late in the program.

I wasn't there, I seen the video and of course. I've never been anywhere but LBurg :) The man passed no less than 30 cars just to make the feature then passed another 15 in it. Awesome!

Chuck, who's only been to Tri State once and it made a believer out of me then.
