best of luck to him, with the Lotus drawbacks if he has a Honda and doesn't wreck a few times he should have no issue making the field

I'm glad he got that out of the way. He should have a great shot if everything comes together.

33 is going to be a struggle this year. Plenty of cars, not enough engines with Lotus' issues. Chevy and Honda will more than likely be going past what they orginally said they would do as far as number of engines. They would fall short of 33 if both didn't supply more.

Take the 26 cars that started the first two races and add these cars to Indy.
Ana Beatriz - Andretti
Jean Alesi - Newman Haas
Luca Filippi - RLL
Sebastian Saavedra - AFS/Andretti
Paul Tracy - MSRIndy
BryanClauson - SFR
? - Foyt
? - Dreyer & Reinbold

That get's the field to 34 but with the news this morning coming out of Europe concerning Lotus & F1, who knows what will happen to the Indy program.

This will be a good year for anyone that can scrape enough cash up to buy their way in.

If there aren't enough engines, then there won't be any rides to buy. Unless you're referring to the Hunter-Reay/Junquera type scenario from last year.

NO, was refering to the fact there may not be 33 cars this year, so if BC or anyone else can secure enough funds to buy a ride they will be in the race

That's pretty much the breakdown I see/hear. I'm not sure any Lotus teams will be able to add a car because of engine supply. They supply 5 now and I've read that they will do 6 (which will go to Alesi). DRR is usually good for 3 or 4 entries at Indy, but I don't think they will be able to do that this year based on what you hear. Maybe something will change. Davey Hamilton said his team will do 1 extra car (maybe 2). I think they will get to 33 somehow. I just don't see it going much past that this year. Lotus hasn't delivered their 33% of the field so it's good Chevy and Honda have already stepped up. Not much you can do. Those companies owe it to their orginal teams to not over-extend too much for Indy.

Lotus doesn't make sense to me. I can't keep track of who owns/runs what with the name. A couple of years ago, two F1 teams fought over the use of the name. I don't really understand how Lotus is run and who can use the name. With the way things are run, I wouldn't feel too comfortable with their engine in my car for years to come. Far cry from what Colin Chapman started.
