Front Arm Angle Question
 
Hi there,
I have some questions about some front arm angles that hopefully some of you guys on this site can give me some of your opinions. My question is how does front arm angles effect the chassis handling? Had somone that lowerd their front rack on there 600 then when they went out to race the car said the car wouldnt turn into the entry like it used to. So he put some turns in the front to pick the car up and got the angles back to where they were before the lowered rack and said it changed the car completey on entry. Does arm angles effect this? Dont know how its such a big deal because I walk through the pits and sprint cars LF arm are just about level or even going up hill to the axle.
Any info would be great

That's because your steering "rack" is mounted to the axle, not IN the car, angles are very critical on axle mounted steering. Don't try to compare anything, on a sprint car, to a mini! Bob!:)

I was talking about the front torsion rack not the front steering. I guess I may of been confussion when I was talking about the front arm ment more the front torsion arm not steering arms

In what relation was the front panhard? If the rod was not moved also it would be in a different place on the center line of the axle when ride height was changed. This would give you a tremendous change in handling entering and exiting the corner. So that could be the gremlin more than arm angels. Just a thought.

Didn't understand your reference to "rack", and assuming you have a 4-bar car, or at least torsion bars on the front, and the steering box/gear is mounted in the cockpit, moving the torsion arm angles up/down, does effect the panhard bar angle, and can change the steering characteristics, usually the arm angles are adjusted, to transfer weight differently, side to side, and front to rear, it is a method of moving weight around, and yes, it does effect the steering effect, and how well or poor it responds, and the panhard bar has an influence on this also. There is more to setting up a car, then just turning a screw here and there, and no two drivers like the same thing, there is usually a place to start, setup blocks, some guys can get one close, if they are familiar with the car, can get one close, just by how it looks, those guys are not easy to find, and really are the ones you need to ask, if you can get them away from the one they are working with. Another factor, is if it's a combo car, or track surface specific, dirt or ashpalt, and how it was designed, a good driver, can usually drive a poorly set up car, but is able to take full advantage of a good setup.
