Video of the Day: 1970 USAC Champ Cars-Springfield
 

Another one from ABC Wide World of Sports. This one is a visit to the Springfield Mile at the Illinois State Fairgrounds on August 22, 1970. Jim McKay and Chris Economaki are the commentators.

There was a lengthy rain delay during the day that delayed the start of the 100 lap race. When it finally began, ABC was near the end of the broadcast window, so they had to leave before the end of the finish.

Great stuff. I never made it to Springfield but it brought back happy memories of the Indiana State Fairgrounds.

Man, does that bring back the memories....How about Rutherford up on the cushion in 3 & 4 on the first lap and Mario with the left front up in 1 & 2 and a bunch of Offies in the field!! I'm getting old too but I sure miss those days.
