Traffic Delays Springfield IL to Phoenix?

I plan to go from Springfield IL to Phoenix taking I-55 south to I-270 around St. Louis to I-44 to I-40 at Oklahoma City to I-17 south at Flagstaff to Phoenix. Are there any bad construction delays (like I-70 in Indiana) which should make me reconsider this route? Thanks for any information you can give me. Hope to see a lot of IOWers in the Southwest.

Thanks a lot, Bob! I didn't know if you had started your westward trip yet or not. Hope to see the two of you at some races out there.

Frank, are you staying out there long enough to go on to Perris?

Frank, I would suggest you pay close attention to the weather forecast, Arizona has had some pretty bad dust storms this year.
Texas just had one that started in Amarillo and traveled to Lubbock with high winds and damage that resembled a tornado. One of the storms in Arizona resulted in a multi vehicle accident on I10 east of the valley that killed several people.

As far as traffic delays, as Bob said when I came back from Central N. Y. about two weeks before Bob & Monica, it was pretty easy going even though almost every state had some type of construction. The worst I experienced was east of where you will start out in Ohio.

Have a safe trip and enjoy the racing,

Patti

Yes. Canyon, Perris, ASCS at Southern New Mexico Speedway just outside of Las Cruces and then the Western World. Then back to cold weather.

That is a very good suggestion, Patti. I will be careful about that. I remember a video on the Weather Channel earlier this year with what seemed like an endless wall of sand approaching Phoenix. Looked like something out of the movies. I don't want to have the opportunity to view it first hand.

Frank, I'm just totally jealous. I wish I could hitchhike. Wife, kids, and work would probably be angered. Have fun, be safe.

SpfldMile, you took the words right out of my mouth.

dirtnonwingfan, my wife is a flight attendant and I can fly out there for about $40.00 with her travel perks but I won't be done farming by then so it's a no-go. Luckily I've had the pleasure of attending the Oval Nationals twice in the last 7 or 8 years so hearing you talk about going fills me with envy!

Enjoy, enjoy!!

So Frank and I will try our hardest to enjoy the trip enough for several. I'm taking the train out, arriving in Riverside on Thursday morning. Taking train to Phoenix to visit family, then flying back.

Ken, wish you could go, too.

Now...how about Mr. Ott? Is he traveling a bit more west?

Wish you guys were going also. I'll try to take good notes and post results, assuming I get a good internet connection in my motels. Danny, hope to see you out there.
