My Hope for Future Updates Threads

Since there is no way I can make it to the Action Track for tomorrows ISW show I am hoping to read the updates that Chris Nunn without fail has been giving us or if he is not available Robin Elson or others that can amply fill in for him. However I am not sure whether or not to click on the “Updates” thread to view. Given THAT's recent history including the aborted Sumar Classic I'm a little apprehensive.

As far as I'm concerned Indiana Sprint Week 2011 at THAT is a fresh start. I don't care what happened last week, last month or three years ago or why Joe Saldana flipped in the Hut Hundred. I am just as much a kid with these updates as I was when following the exploits of Branson and (Jud) Larson back in the day. Unfortunately, at the first sign of a problem or possibly the race not meeting someone's high expectations I'm afraid the THAT updates thread will denigrate into another dump fest on the present and past sins of the Action Track and how it doesn't measure up to other tracks or races. I want to enjoy the rest of ISW but I'm thinking my choices are to follow USAC in Twitter and wait or risk getting the updates on IOW, raising my blood pressure and turning the computer off while shaking my head in disgust. I guess there is something to be said about the “good old days.” Any ones points of view with the exception of Foyt and a few others was just pit chatter that didn't carry much more than five square yards.

I'd like to see an update thread dedicated to updates, not just for THAT but beyond. I know it's a novel idea but I guess that's why they call it "updates" instead of "updates and commentary." I hope I will get my wish but my gut feeling tells me otherwise.

Since I'm usually 1000 miles away, I can only say "Right on." This would be great! It's easy enough to start another thread for comments.

Well, I tried to make a separate thread for THAT complaints, but it got deleted :( It was supposed to be funny, poking fun at complaints, and I'm sorry nobody got to read it. I just hope, since THAT has always been dusty, the track preppers aren't going to get blamed if it's dusty, because some newcomers might not know that the track has always been dustier than most.

That is correct, I did delete it. There is no point in starting a thread for complaints before an event even starts. I believe that the majority of people can tell the difference between legitimate complaints and just plain flaming. Flamers get ignored. Legitimate complaints are recognized and then fixed.

I do hate all the complaining that goes on here, but with the good you have to take the bad also. The beautiful thing about online message boards is that everyone gets to have a voice, whether its good or bad.
The members of this board make it what it is.

If you don't want the editorials from the board members, you have other options like you said such as USAC's twitter feed. This board wouldn't be nearly as popular if only certain individuals were allowed to post on certain threads. Without everyone having a voice, the updates wouldn't happen in the first place....

For what it's worth, I'll be covering the race as media and a photographer, and while those are somewhat different, I completely reserve my media opinion as a neutral, unbiased article when I write the race story. For those who know me personally and by my articles, I try to keep my opinion objective to the race itself for those who are interested in reading a race-only story. However, as someone who is a very passionate fan, I separately write my blogs on the scene as well. While I've got a love/hate relationship with THAT, because of the potential and the stunningly amazing shows and the huge letdowns of late, I lean heavily towards the positives of what can happen for Sprint Week. Personally, I think the show will be great and I hope I've got a glowing article and blog to write for my vacation this week!

"Terre Haute has always been dusty". I have been to plenty of races at Terre Haute where it has not been dusty and I have been going there since 1969. Get your facts straight before you go blasting tracks.

My intention was not to 'blast' a track. I have never 'blasted' or 'bashed' a track, and I'm not going to start now. However, you are right in the sense that "ALWAYS" is a strong word and I was raised better than to speak in absolutes. Perhaps I should have used the word 'often'. I also understand the night races are ''traditionally' or 'often' or 'frequently' less dusty than day races 'often' have been. Thank you for your correction.
