Local Track Handicapping?
 

After seeing 5 "local" sprint features during midget week, I got to wondering how the local tracks do their handicapping. It seemed to me that there were always very fast cars at the front of the field. Having spent many years attending shows in Central PA, where the fast cars start behind 10th, this seems strange. And, I remember NARC races in the early 80s where Chuck Gurney and Leroy Van Connett started 17th & 18th.

How is it done in Indiana?

They draw for heats , then 1 and 2 in heats redraw for a main .

Even though it was a little short of a full field. I liked LBurgs Six car heats. No offense but on a track that size getting first or second in a ten car heat in eight laps can be quite a challange.

We draw at the start of the night they set up the Heat races by that Sometimes fast guys start up front sometimes they don't! They quit Qualifying to save time and to make it as even as they can!

Yes Having the fastest guys would be great to watch Start in the back but it's unfair for anyone to start in the back after they have earned a front Starting spot! I'm one of the low budget guys that gets beat by them and I still feel what we are doing is right!

I also know that some tracks, or atleast Bloomington has a rule that if you win two consecutive features, you can't start any better than tenth place in the feature the following week.

It should be added that MSCS has gone to a passing points format this year. Although I wish they would run a dash, instead of just re-drawing the top 8 in points for the feature lineup.
