Helping with gas price
I see it on here and everywhere else. I might not be able to go to the races when gas is $4 to $5 gallon.
Here is how you justify paying 4 or 5 dollars a gallon gas. Every time you go to the vending machine at work ask yourself Which do I like more racing or that candy bar? If you answer is, racing take that dollar and put it in a box instead of the vending machine. If you go out to lunch or dinner during the work day, ask yourself Racing or going out for food If racing is your answer, pack your brown bag or cook at home. Put 3 dollars in a box because that is about what you saved by brown bagging or cooking at home. Look in the box at end of week, you will be surprise how much money is in there for that extra cost of gas. Beside you might even get healthier If you smoke I don't even need to go there, you know that answer. I am sure that others has some ideas how to save some money for the extra cost of the gas. |

Re: Helping with gas price
Fans of other sports, most notably football pay a high price just to get in to the event. Then they pay a high price for food and drink. It will take more than the price of gas to stop me personally from attending a sprintcar race. In the end it will cost about the same as other big sports events. JMO. Thanks. :31: :23:

Re: Helping with gas price
Tomorrow I'm heading north to fetch the Sword Man. Then we're headed for Gas City. One thing I'll do is drive slower. Right now I'm thinking that I'll avoid the interstate, taking it easy on state highways.
I won't skimp on meals; he and I will dine on race track food. Saturday, I'll use the same plan going to Lincoln Park, along with Kokomo on Sunday. If gas goes higher I'll take further measures, even if it means car pooling with Dave Foist. :18: (Actually Dave is great company, whether he's driving or riding. Has a treasure trove of great stories, some of which may be true.:2:) Mark is very correct. It's not that hard to find things you can give up to go to a race. I see Greg's pain. Been there, etc. You pick your spots, cut corners wherever you can. Granted, those of us who can hit numerous races each year are fortunate. But that's another discussion. |
Re: Helping with gas price
The majority of my racing usually adds $8-9.50 in toll to cross the Detroit River. I already do a lot of Mark's tips. I've always had the mentality that besides camera equipment I usually only speed money on going to races.
I have noticed that I am already using the National Speedway Directory iphone app to check out the "nearby" tracks. I hope to add a few relatively close, not yet visited tracks to my list of track chasing. I've got a short story of the mentality I bring into going to races. In Canada we pay $4.54-5.01 a gallon. But I can also buy $60 USD for $58 Canadian due to the weak dollar. It usually costs me $54 CAD to fill my wife's car in Canada. Last week for $58 I filled her car for $3.90 a gallon at duty free, paid toll and bought a quarter pounder combo for $58 CAD when I went to Toledo for a nice dry sunny afternoon at the racetrack! My Saturday plan for practice at my hometrack has already rained out, so you guys aren't alone. Reading all the rained out threads this month is like groundhog day! |
