HOSS accident 7/31/10 at Baer field

I was wondering if anyone had any updates on Tim Cox after his accident last night at Baer field . It was the scariest winged pavement sprint car accident I've ever seen , and he is in our thoughts and prayers.

I was unable to stay after the incident which was at about 12:30 and had to drive back to Toledo to work in the morning but wanted to also thank HOSS and Baer field for putting on a great show even if it was running really late , would have loved to stay for everything

Pete,

On the HOSS website, just a one liner that Tim Cox was released from the hospital. It doesn't give any further details.

Tim Cox is 'ok', with a pretty good goose egg bump below his left knee (steering box) and a sore right arm (pinched between a bar and the seat). He has some lower back pain as well and will be sore for a while after that wreck.

For those who weren't there, Tim dropped a wheel off the top of the backstretch and the car pulled off into the big tire barrier. The car did a series of flat spins and a couple of flips before coming to rest on its wheels. After taking great precautions to remove Tim from the car, he was transported to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. He was treated and released shortly after 4 AM Sunday.

The Bill Lipkey Memorial race for 2010 winner was Jerry Caryer of Ney, OH. He topped a field of 22 cars for the popular win. Caryer was at the tracks first race in 1964 to see his dad race, and had always hoped to win a race here. Bill Lipkey was the longtime owner/promoter of the track, and to have Caryer in Victory Lane carried much sentiment through the crowd as well with the evening being Hall of Fame induction night. Hurryin' Hank Lower was inducted this evening, after qualifying second fastest (15.124) and finishing fifth in the feature.

I heard Denny England came out of retirement after 6 or so years.Any idea how he did?

Denny was back for a one night stand. He was subbing for Joe Swanson, who was getting married and couldn't go from penguin suit to firesuit that day.

Denny qualified in the top five and ran a conservative third in the last heat before rain washed away the night.

By the way, Joe set fast time in the same car and finished a career best third the following week...

Good to see Denny get back out there. He was one of the big dogs on the dirt in northern IN when I was a kid. You knew the Classic Car Center 84 was one of the cars to beat when it pulled in the pits.

Glad to hear Tim came out "ok".
