Unsolicited Thank you To USAC / POWRI and especially Tommy

I just want to say thank you to both of the sanctioning groups for coming together to show what this midget racing deal could and should be. The race last night had that big race feel and for the second time in less then a year you could actually hear the fans roar over the sound of the race they were cheering.

There are a few Crown Jewel events for the Dirt Midgets and I hope last nights event showed that we need all Midget racing groups to support these events for the betterment of the whole midget racing community.

To Tommy I really think you took a chance on this event but I hope it was as successful to you as a promoter as it was to the participants.

To the fans, I am hard pressed to think of a more vocal and raucous crowd. It reminds me of being in a home team stadium. While each section of fans has there favorite driver and are very vocal about it what amazes me is how they all come together when a race such as last night comes together.

This was my first Hut 100, and all I can say is WOW. That was one of the best races I've ever seen. Getting to see Kuhn, Clauson, and Coons throw clean slider after clean slider at each other, lap after lap, was well worth the 180 mile trip over.

Just one mild criticism, and I know I'm probably going to get burned at the stake by the traditionalists for suggesting this, but here it goes: Perhaps this race could be shortened, so that all laps can be contested under green. It's no fun watching laps ticking off the lap counter under yellow. It feels too much like NASCAR that way. Perhaps they could make the feature 60 GREEN flag laps. Counting the two 10-lap non-qualifier races, and the 20 lap micro feature, that still yeilds the magic 100 lap number. At 60 laps, drivers would still have to deal with a large fuel load at the start, so the fundamental nature of the race would not be compromised.

Again, I'm not complaining, as it was a privledge just to get to see such a great race.

I would also like to thank USAC/POWRI, Mr. Mills and crew, for bringing the Hut 100 Live on the Net for those of us who couldn't be there in person......GOOD STUFF...:6::9:

I definitely agree about the fans, Tim. With the temps last night, Tommy and Loris could have really gotten burned. But the fans just had faith that if they brought an extra layer of clothing, this track was going to create a special event for them. And they definitely did just that. They groomed the racing surface in a manner that would allow the drivers to really bring the house down. And they did just that. Especially BC. What a victory! His ability to remain focused, while he waits for his opportunity to present it's self, is one of the things that has always set him apart.

Last night was absolutely awesome! The racing was fantastic. Tommy, the whole Tri-State crew, USAC, and POWRi did a great job! It was great to see many, many fans and drivers come out and support the track and series' for the Hut 100 in such cold temps. Tommy took a chance and I think it went extremely well for everyone involved! Can't wait for next year!! :6:

Congrats to BC on his victory! :8:

Good race last night. Yes it went by quicker than I thought it would with the yellows but the last 25 was as good as it gets. I think I would have made the decision to count only green flag laps from lap 50 on. The temps. didn't bother me any, I was going to this race regardless of the weather. Tough break for Kuhn who obviously dropped a cylinder or something. At first I thought he was running out of fuel. His motor sounded pretty sick. Good runs for Armstrong and Derrick King. Congrats to BC on another big win.:22: Looks like it could be another good year in store.

A classic! The competition, the facility, the track prep, the fans, everything. Thanks to Tommy, all the racers, USAC and POWRi. The fans sitting next to me had never been to a midget race before and obviously loved it. This goes to show what can be done when you combine an excellent facility, class people and cooperation between sanctioning bodies. Hope we have more of this. It was well worth a 230+ mile drive and brisk, refreshing weather.

Wow, talk about a baptism by fire.:3: Did you ask whether they had they been to other races before? If not, I think they might be hooked for life.:6:

You never know who might be sitting around you at the races. It turns out the guys sitting behind us live just a few miles from me. Mind you, I live in a town with a population of perhaps 350, and it's 178 miles from Haubstadt. We had never met these guys before last night.
