racing in indiana

I know this has been talked about on here before but is there any way a guy could run a 360 on a 1/4 mile track in indiana or any where for that matter and be competive? Not win but compete say top ten top 5 if all the cards fell in to place on the right night? Running with the 410s could this not be done?

Korey Weyant seems to be competitive on his fair share of nights, running a 360. He even won a feature at Vermilion County Speedway, early in the year.

Hockett blew up his 410 at an ELDORA USAC show so he dropped in the 360 and came from pretty deep in the field to run 3rd under a blanket with the leader earlier this season.

NO - ABSOLUTELY NOT! You cannot run a home-built 360 against the aluminum 410's and even hope to stay on the same lap with them in a heat race, much less make the feature. It is absolutely imperitive (sp?) that you have an aluminum block 410.:2:

I didn't see a "tongue in cheek" icon along with all the smiley-faces, so I used the big smile icon at the end of my post, thinking you'd get it. The fact of the matter is we've been racing in Indiana since 2003 with our ASCS-legal motors, which aren't top of the line for ASCS, either. While we haven't done particularly good, we haven't embarrassed ourselves, either. We were learning a new car (for us) and new tracks last year, so we're planning for better results in 2010.

Short answer - Yes, I believe one can compete without wings with a 360 steel block motor against 410 aluminum block motors, especially on tracks shorter than half-miles.

I drove a 360 car at paragon and putnamville once this past year. We ran 11 at paragon and it took rubber and I believe we started 15. At putnamville we had to run there second feature and run second and if we were closer to the right gear starting out we could have been better. I did find out with the 360 engine we had (silver crown) we had to run a lot more gear at p-ville (6.42 compaired to 6.08 run with the 410).
