We had more fun racing with Bimbo back in the day
He was a very good racer not a good driver but a racer.

Bim ran a lot of years at Warsaw Speedway against Tony Elliott, Van Gurley, Dave Darland and Jeff Walker among others. I remember funding from Trading Gate Auto Sales, Cargomaster Trailers (he had the first enclosed trailer I ever saw), and later was backed by Dave Gunsallus' Kendallville Gravel. His 36a won the last feature ever at Warsaw. After that he raced sporadically, eventually getting on with life.
Younger brother Kevin raced many more years, most recently with Loren Darymple in SOD (2007). Kevin was even with Tony Stewart for '93 or '94 USAC RotY until a Terre Haute tumble halted his effort.

Both great guys and real gassers, the Atkins family ran 'em like they were meant to be run.

I remember Bimbo well as I was a regular at Warsaw Speedway as a kid. You can find a couple of pics of him in the 80's section of photos.

Jeff Walker actually won the last race. Bimbo won the final points title, but not the last race.

You're right KT. By the time Jeff took his VERY last victory lap (with his dually and fifth wheel trailer for those who left before 3AM), it had all begun to blur into the past.

I had a guy hit me up on facebook about Warsaw. The memories of beautiful lakeside sunsets and great local racing

It still sucks, gang.
