Whoa, ASCS 410s and non winged?
 

A 410 non wing race scheduled for Texas that is not a USAC sanction but ASCS? I didn't know ASCS was going to have a 410 non wing series or a 410 series at all for that matter.

Take a look at the Houston Raceway Park schedule (May 1st, 2010)

I know of one midwest team that really likes the look of that topless series. If the TV time comes about, they won't be running as much here, as they will be where the ASCS runs. They say they have a very healthy purse structure also.

It is a decent payoff with nice money through the field, but it only pays $3,000 to win. I think running races all over the place for that kind of money is sending the wrong message...

And the next Saturday at I-30 in Little Rock. I'm a bit concerned, however, about car count. I was hoping the series would be able to schedule shows down this way significantly before mid-April. As it now stands, the Indiana season will be in full swing when these races occur. I doubt many, if any, Indiana teams will tow to Houston, TX to support these shows, and there aren't many teams around here willing to remove the wings. There also aren't many 410 engines in TX, with ASCS being so dominant. So, the next thing is that maybe they are counting on ASCS guys to help fill the car counts, but I'm having a hard time believing that there won't be ASCS shows, both regional and national, that will be running these weekends - competing for car count. Had the schedule allowed late March-to-early April shows the series may have been able to gain a foothold car-count wise. With the dates set as currently advertised I see a potential for disappointment in both show quality and fan perception.

But, maybe a few palms are going to get greased to help car counts - who knows? Both shows do, however, fit into our schedule so I might be able to get some laps in next year.

Can anyone post a link to some more information from ASCS? I went to their website and can't find anything.

I do know that they run the SST( Sprint Series of Texas) cars without wings around Dallas allot. These cars are 305 injected cars. So they might draw some of those cars.

Being in the land of the ASCS cars. When ASCS first started you could run home built injected motor and do fairly well in the features. It was only when the series got established and more people saw the benefits that it took off. Remember ASCS was orginally started to counteract the cost of winged 410's esp in the Southern plains. Tulsa speedway was running winged 410's at the time and maybe had 15 cars on a weekly basis.

We may have different definitions of what is a lot. SST ran 15 races last year and only 4 of them were non wing. The schedule was for 16 races with 4 non wing, but one was rained out and not rescheduled. While a few SST racers will run against the 360s at Cowtown occasionally, there are 3 other Racesaver series for them to run if they want to run more than the regular schedule. Houston would be a long tow for them, so I don't see much chance of them running against 410s down there.
