Davis Breaks Out the Broom in ASCS Canyon Region Go at USA
Lonnie Wheatley, TUCSON, Ariz. (June 27, 2009) – Charles Davis, Jr., enjoyed a perfect night at USA Raceway, topping it off with his third Discount Tire Co. ASCS Canyon Region win of the season to extend his series points lead in the process. After winning both his heat race and the dash, Davis led all 30-lap of the main event to complete a sweep of the night's racing action aboard the Don Ott-powered Massey Motorsports No. 50 DRC. Besting a field of 31 entries, Davis took the checkered flag in front of R.J. Johnson. Nathan High rallied from 17th to claim the show position, with Ronnie Clark and Chris Bonneau rounding out the top five. Johnathon Henry was sixth, with 18th-starter Jeremy Sherman, Mike Martin, Stevie Sussex and Jody Wirth completing the top ten. The Parker Store Pole Challenge had four different winners in seven 2 lap match races. The last three were dominated by Davis which set him up for a front row starting spot. Brian O'Donnell, Henry, Davis and Harris Brooks topped heat race action, with High winning the "B" Main “The Casa Grande Bullet” Bo Partain went from the Dunk Tank to victory lane for his third straight win in a very competitive division. Partain was chased to the line by Manny Romero, Johnny McCarty Sr, Bill Walton and Johnny McCarty Jr. rounding out the top five. Joshua Shipley grabbed the 1st Annual Piggly’s Modified Midget/Mini Sprint Open presented by Network Automotive. Shipley picked up the $500 winners prize and the first ever non wing open race on the 1/5 mile track. Justin Quinn, Mike Visser, Dylan Cappello and Garrett Guilkey rounded out the top five. David Pastika crashed hard during the Mini Sprint Feature and was transported to the hospital for observation. He was released early Sunday morning with no major injuries. Jake O’Neil captured his first victory in the X-Mod division beating James Fleming by inches in a spectacular race to the finish. O’Neil had to later relinquish the victory due to not passing post race inspection. Fleming, Chris Tipton, Robert Culbertson, Dave Dulceak and Scott Walker made up the top five finishers. Duane Jones beat points leader Jason Miller in RWD Hornet action while John Callans extended his points lead by winning the FWD Feature. The First Annual Southwest Border Wars takes place on Friday July 3rd as the UMP West Modifieds headline with Factory Stocks and Hornets. The ASCS Wing Sprint Cars will feature the July 4th Show and will be joined by Super Stocks, Arizona Modified Midgets and the Debut of AMRA Midgets. General admission tickets will go on sale at 5pm for only $12, racing will begin promptly at 7pm. Suite Access Passes which allow race fans the opportunity to enjoy the races from USA Raceway’s VIP Suite are also on sale for only $25.
