Shuttlesworth wins, Coonan injured
A wild finish of the SCORA feature at Terre Haute. Barrie Shuttlesworth led most of the feature, but was pressured by Chase Stockon. Stockon passed Shuttlesworth half way into the race, but was set back to second by a yellow fpr Craig Budde. With tow laps left Stockon made a move for the lead again going into turn three and the car stalled. This set up a wild last two laps. On the restart Dusty Wright took the lead with Alex Coogan in tow. Stockon was charging from the rear. Coming down for the finish, Wright and Coonan made contact and Coonan started flipping end to end. Shuttlesworth got through for the win, with Wright second, Stockon got back to third, Jamie Frederickson was fourth, and Coonan landing past the start finish line for fifth. Suttlesworth was in victory lane while the rescue crew removed the injured Coonan from his wrecked Sprinter. Reports from the hospital said Alex had a vertebae problem in his neck and contusions. He was awake and I spoke with him at 2 AM this morning. Heat races were won by Stockon from last and J. T. Stapp. The injured Coonan took the SCORA points lead from Stapp. Stapp was involved in the first lap flip with MSCS which finished him for the night. I have read some comments on the IOW about Shuttlesworth outclassing the field. That was very wrong because it was very competitive evening and Barrie Shuttlesworth drove a very fine race. I think this is a new talent in the making. The idea of out dollaring the competition is wrong for Stockon's Sprinter had an old barrowed engine and was very competitive, thanks to the Cunninghams from Spencer. SCORA next race is at Ripley County Fairgrounds, Osgood, Indiana on July 3 sponsored by the Grub Company of Osgood.
