Re: Ascot video

:rollingGreat Video "DO"?

1) Wonder why you brought it up....lol!

2) All I can say if anybody had the wisdom to try to reinstate that speedway
it would be a dream come true. You would have the same problems though,
noise.

3) The thing I liked about Ascot are things nobody cares about or talks about.

a) Ascot was more than a Speedway, where daredevils/highly skilled
drivers diplayed thier talents and thrilled the fans. It was also
a speedway where race car drivers died and it took more than
bravery to master. I guess you would have to say it took skill and
courage. Something we don't really associate with sprint car racing.
We really don't think about people dieing today racing sprint cars.
It's kind of an after thought. But not at Ascot it was something
that most did not take lightly.

4) Too the point! Ascot was a family park, where just about 7 days a week
you could take your child or family and find something to do or entertain
yourself in a wholesome, fun kind of way. It was a way of life/American
way of life.

a) Name me a place that has an arcade park at the speedway? Name
me a park where you could drive go carts...5 HP go-carts, competively
on the small/side race course that attracted experienced racers to
competitive ones, driving 750 cc motorcycle side cars on the 'small
track'. Name me a place where the big track converts to a small one
where three wheels, and quads race side by side, and motocross
events happen once a week. There were AMA races on the big 1/2 mile.
And it was a true 1/2 mile and the clay was as sticky as the streets of
Long Beach where the gumbal slicks...sticky up the track after a few
races side by side in thier Indy cars or Formula Atlantics.

Where Sprint Cars with wings and those without attracted the best
racers in the World. Not to mention where big "Midget" events happened.

b) When you talk about Ascot, you're talking about a family run, family
supported race track where you could take your children and engage
in the American way of life. If it had wheels it raced at Ascot.

I doubt if any racetrack in the world involves the community and the
kids to get involved in motorsports like Ascot did. It was really a
family park and not a just a racetrack, but a way of life for the whole
community. Communities don't just race sprint cars. They race go-carts,
motor cycle side cars, speeway bikes, AMA bikes, motorcylces, motocross
and anything with wheels. Ascot provide the atmosphere and the place
where you could get your thrills and diplay your skills, take your mother,
brother or even try to impress your girlfriend on that first important date.

If your girl friend or mother, dad could not find something do do at Ascot,
I would say you really had a messed up life. Ascot provide everything
for the family to do, hands down.

Sincerely,

Larry Otani and thnx for posting the video.

This is a track that i grew up only hearing the legends of... I know one thing for sure.. I got the raw end of the deal bein born in my generation, tracks of yesteryear such as the great facility of ASCOT I would have given anything to see!!!

My favorite picture of all time was a picture of Ron Shuman at ASCOT after a heat race and the only thing that wasnt covered with 6 inches of mud was his visor...

These days theyd scrape the track for 35 min after seein a car look like that

Man im deprived... I envy anyone that got to catch a live glimpse of this historic track

Hey D.O. That was great. If my memory is right and based on the info in the piece, I think I was there with my sprint car on the day they interviewed Kinser. Way Cool and yes Ascot was a really cool joint.....
